Regeneration
Regenerate the TextBase
To link your new segments to the syllables in your edition, you need to regenerate the TextBase.
- From the homepage, go to Reports.
- Find the TextBase you want to regenerate and click Reports > Data Model.
You’ll download a data model report file. - Save the data model report file to your desktop.
- Go back to the homepage and go to Text Alignment.
- Fill in the text alignment form.
- Alignment Type: Choose Regenerate from the drop-down menu.
- TextBase: Choose the TextBase you want to regenerate from the drop-down menu.
- Data Model: Upload the data model report file you downloaded in step 2.
- Text transliteration: Upload your transliteration file.
- Segment Import Type: Choose Import baseline segments from the drop-down menu.
- Term SQL File: If you have an alternative term.sql file, you can upload it to generate the term table in the database.
- Click Import.
If your import has issues, you’ll see a red panel with an import warning.
If you see a warning like this, you need to match your reports and make some corrections.
If it’s successful, you’ll see a green panel at the top of the screen with a link to the newly-generated TextBase. - Click the link to open your regenerated database.
If you ordered your segments correctly, your syllables will now be linked to them and you can move onto 3D annotation of your text. If you made mistakes or just want to manually change the links, follow our instructions to custom-link segments and syllables.
Fix regeneration issues
If your segments and syllables were mismatched and you got an import warning when you tried to regenerate the TextBase, you need to go back and add or remove segments or syllables, either by editing your transliteration or by repeating the segmentation process. Then regenerate the Textbase again.
Sometimes it helps to compare READ’s TextBase reports before you make edits so you can understand where you might have added an extra syllable or segment. To do this, follow these steps:
- From the homepage, go to Reports.
- Find the TextBase you’re working on and click Reports > Data Model.
You’ll download a data model report file. - Again, click Reports, but this time click Text Sequence.
You’ll download a text sequence report file. - Open the two files you downloaded.
- In the data model report, go to the Segment tab and check how many segments you have. The numbers in the SegID column indicate how many there are.
If the segments aren’t in order according to the Ordinal column, Custom Sort the worksheet by that column, values smallest to largest.
- In the text sequence report, check how many syllables you have. If you have multiple lines, add the totals of the numbers for each line indicated in the LineSum column.
- If the number of segments and syllables is the same in both reports, you can continue to syllable linking.
If they don’t match, go back and add or remove segments or syllables, either by editing your transliteration or by repeating the segmentation process. Then regenerate the TextBase again.
Custom linking segments and syllables
To link a syllable to a segment, you must have ownership rights on the syllable.
If you ordered your segments correctly, regenerating the TextBase will automatically link your syllables to them. If you made mistakes or just want to manually change the links:
- Open your TextBase and get set up to work with segments.
- Double-click a segment to select it.
It will turn white to indicate it’s selected. - In the Edit section of the utilities panel, click Link segment.
A dialogue box will appear. - Click OK in the dialogue box, then click OK again.
- In the edition VE, double-click on the syllable you wish to link.
Repeat these steps as many times as you need to link each segment.
Once you’re done you can move onto 3D annotation.
