Training: Module 3

Link syllables and segments to your 3D model

To link the segments in your image and the syllables in your edition to your new 3D model, you need to add annotations to the model. You can do this one by one or in a sequence.

Add a single annotation

To add an annotation to a text’s 3D model:

  1. Open the text you want to work on.
  2. In the Layout section of the utilities panel, click Change Panel Layout and choose a layout with three panes. We recommend the layout with the third panel on the far right.
  3. In the Resources section of the utilities panel, click the books icon next to an edition to see its resources.
  4. Click the blue box to the right of the 3D Viewer resource and drag it into the third pane to open it.
  5. Click on the edition VE.
  6. Double-click the syllable you want to link to the 3D model.
It will be highlighted in blue when it’s selected.
  7. Click on the 3D Viewer pane again.
  8. In the Edit section of the utilities panel, click Create 3D annotations.
  9. Click and drag the 3D model to move it around.
  10. Click once to place an annotation.

You’ve created an annotation that’s linked to the syllable you selected, which in turn is linked to a segment on the image. You can keep adding annotations one by one, or you can keep reading to learn how to add a sequence of them.

Add a sequence of annotations

To add a series of annotations to a text’s 3D model:

  1. To begin, add a single annotation. If you’ve already done this, click on an existing annotation to select it.
  2. While still in the 3D Viewer, go to the View section of the utilities panel and click Properties. The properties of the 3D Viewer will open in the side of the pane.
  3. In the 3D Viewer’s properties, click Create Next.
  4. Click and drag the 3D model to move it around.
  5. Click once to place a new annotation.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 until you’ve annotated all syllables in the 3D Viewer.

Once you’ve finished, you can go back and edit annotations or delete them if you need to.

Edit an annotation

If you want to change the position of an annotation:

  1. Click in the 3D Viewer pane, then go to the View section of the utilities panel and click Properties. The properties of the 3D Viewer will open in the side of the pane.
  2. Select an annotation on the 3D model.
  3. In the 3D Viewer’s properties, click Edit.
  4. Click and drag the 3D model to move it around.
  5. Click once to place the annotation in a new location.

Don’t worry if the number allocated to your new annotation appears out of sequence. This will correct itself if you refresh the page.

If you want to change the positions of a sequence of annotations, you’ll need to delete them all first, then reannotate them in a sequence. Keep reading to learn how to delete them.

Delete an annotation

To completely remove an annotation from the 3D model:

  1. Click in the 3D Viewer pane, then go to the View section of the utilities panel and click Properties. The properties of the 3D Viewer will open in the side of the pane.
  2. Select an annotation on the 3D model.
  3. In the 3D Viewer’s properties, click Delete.

Once you’ve deleted an annotation or a sequence of annotations, you can go back and reannotate if you need to.

Congratulations, now that you’ve annotated your 3D model, you’ve completed aligning your text! If you need to recap anything we’ve learned in this training, use these links to go back and explore the four modules:
